Accessibility
Last updated: (to be set)
We want everyone to be able to use LoafBase: shelter staff and volunteers, and people looking to adopt. This page says what we aim for, what we check today, where we know we fall short, and how to tell us about a problem.
1What we aim for
Our design standard targets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, in English and in French. That is a target, not a claim. LoafBase has not been audited against WCAG by an independent reviewer, and we do not state that it conforms.
2What we check on every change
Before a change to the website goes live, automated checks run on it and stop it if they fail. One check fails if a form field shows placeholder text but has no name a screen reader can announce, or if a dialog has no name. Another uses the axe-core tool to scan four representative staff screens in English (the dashboard, an animal record, settings and reports) and our component gallery in English and in French, and fails on low colour contrast, missing page landmarks, and buttons, links, fields or images that have no name. A third checks that the main public pages each have exactly one top-level heading.
3What those checks do not cover
Automated tools find only part of what makes a page hard to use. Pages outside the scan above are checked by hand from time to time, not on every change. We have not yet tested LoafBase with people who use screen readers or other assistive technology. Photos and documents that shelters upload, such as PDFs, are not checked by us and may not be accessible.
4What this statement covers
This statement covers the LoafBase website, including the shelter app and the adopter pages, in English and in French. It does not cover the LoafBase phone app, which is built and tested separately.
5Tell us about a problem
If something on LoafBase is hard or impossible for you to use, email us at david@loafbase.com. Tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, and, if you use one, the assistive technology and browser. You can also reach us by mail at the address on our Help page.
